Chinese Brush Painting (CBP) tutor & artist

After a teaching career covering more than 45 years, I am now concentrating on tutoring Chinese Brush Painting. I was a tutor at Knuston Hall residential college from 2017 until it closed in 2022 and am now looking at other residential college opportunities.
I first became interested in Chinese Brush Painting more than 20 years ago. I was fortunate that my first teacher and mentor was Pauline Cherrett who gave me the best of introductions to this field of painting at Knuston Hall. I then studied with her for the next 18 years and she asked me to take over the course at Knuston as she headed toward a well-earned retirement.
I have gone on to study with Qu Leilei, Shuhua Jin, Kaili Fu, Xiao Bei Li, Jane Evans, Jane Dwight, Maggie Cross and others.
I enjoy painting animals and still life in particular and I am a great admirer of the work of Qi Baishi and Fu Hua.
I have run workshops nationwide, including our own group in Oadby.
I feel very lucky to be able to pass on my love of CBP to others.

I have studied with a variety of talented teachers over the years, including Qu Lei Lei, Jane Evans, Maggie Cross, Kaili Fu, Professor Li, Shuhua Jin, Jane Dwight to name but a few.
I have exhibited and sold my work locally, and have even curated two exhibitions in my time, for the groups to which I belonged. My work has even sold nationally on occasions. My paintings have been selected for several years to appear in the calendar of the Chinese Brush Painters Society, on whose committee I had the honour of serving.
I now enjoy being a visiting tutor to groups around the country and often work in tandem with Paul as we have differing but complementary styles and skills.
